4.0 out of 5 stars This mouse helped heal my Repetitive Strain Injury, March 4, 2010

I should now modify the review and say that though it worked well for a while, this mouse ended up aggravating my specific condition (DEQUERVAINS TENDONITIS). The back and forth movement of my thumb to press the "mouse" buttons on top of the "joystick" caused enough irritation to this condition that I finally had to have tendon release surgery in August of 2010.

Others experiences may be different, however.

I put off writing this review until I had adequate time to use this mouse in all different situations. I purchased this mouse in October 2009 (the large model, item model number: EM550GPL). I had developed a very painful Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)in my right hand and arm from heavy mouse use; in particular the constant use of the roller wheel and the click-click-clicking of the mouse buttons. I am a medical librarian and... Read more

Great for neutral hand position. Has helped attenuate RSI on my wrist extensors. Also forces larger motions instead of "flicking" the wrist for mouse motion. Helps keep hand relaxed between mouse clicks (i.e. no finger-hovering)

Wireless connection works great on both Mac and Windows. I have the wired version at work, and the wireless version at home.

You need to have VERY large hands to get the large version. I have large hands and the Small/Medium version is fine.

Scroll wheel might be useful, but I have yet to find an application that doesn't support scrolling with the middle button depressed.

All in all, much more comfortable than regular mice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay, not what I was hoping for., April 14, 2010

What I was looking for is a joystick like device that I could move the cursor with. This does not work like that. The whole thing moves. Imagine your standard mouse with a stick stuck on top of it. It does take some pressure off the wrist but trying to control it accurately is a challenge. I'm not sending it back, because it's nice to be able to put away the standard mouse and use this for awhile to give my wrist a rest. But once I start doing detailed stuff, I have to go back to the mouse. (But I am able to use this longer each time.)

However, it does have it's own set of problems. If you let your wrist put weight on the device, that's nice, but it makes it harder to move and move slowly/accurately. If you take some weight off it by lifting your arm, now it's going to fatigue the arm muscles.

Another issue is that if you position it where most position a mouse (over to the far right of the keyboard) the device feels very awkward. I have tried moving my keyboard... Read more
